Mid-Size Sedan Sales Jan 2024: Virtus Tops, Slavia Follows, Segment Dips

The Volkswagen Virtus continues its reign in the mid-size sedan segment in January 2025.

With the SUVs leading the Indian market, the sedans have slipped a few notches in customer preference. This is well reflected in the overall sales dip of the mid-size segment. The calendar year 2025 started on a good note for the Volkswagen Virtus as the German sedan continues to perform well in the sales department. Let’s look at the mid-size sedan sales in January 2025.

Mid-Size Sedan Sales January 2025

As mentioned earlier, the Volkswagen Virtus posted sales of 1,795 units in January, registering a marginal 4% YOY decline (1,879 units in January 2024). Similarly, Virtus lost by 20% in the MOM sales as the sedan sold over 2,200 units in December 2024.

Following the suit, the Skoda Slavia continued at the second spot with 1,510 units in the bag. The Czech sedan experienced a YOY sales growth of 22%, factoring in the 1,242 units sold in January 2024. However, Slavia saw a dip of 20% in the MOM analysis.

Trailing behind is the Hyundai Verna which managed to sell 1,477 units in January 2025. This is a considerable decline as compared to the previous year’s figures of 2,172 units, accounting for 32% de-growth. The Verna gained a commendable 69% in the MOM sales.

Mid-Size Sedan Sales January 2025: Honda City’s Sales ContinueTo Plummet

The Honda City posted sales of just 739 units in January 2025. Comparing the January 2024 figures, we can see a 34% decline in the YOY sales. Similarly, a 6% de-growth in the MOM sales can be observed for the City. This is not a good sign and calls for an immediate update or a price revision to put it back on track.

Mid-Size Sedan Sales January 2025: The Overall Scenario

The overall mid-size sedan sales took a 14% hit in the YOY sales comparison. This goes on to show the decreasing customer preference for the sedans.
